These Terms & Conditions constitute a legally binding agreement between Alongside Limited and all participants regarding the use of the Treehole Phone Booth and Grief Mailbox installation.
1. Important Notice
The Treehole Phone Booth and Grief Mailbox are public art and emotional expression installations (together, “Installation”).
The Installation is not:
- emergency support services; or
- medical, psychological, counselling, or therapeutic services.
Anonymous sharing
If you choose to share, your story will be retained and shared with other participants. For this reason, do not include any personal data, including names, phone numbers, addresses, or any information that could identify you or others.
Please share only what you are comfortable being heard.
Emotional safety
If you are currently experiencing:
- severe emotional distress,
- intense trauma responses, or
- thoughts of suicide or self-harm,
this Installation may not be suitable for you. Please seek professional or emergency support immediately.
By using this Installation, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to the above.
2. Nature of the Installation
The Installation is designed to provide a space for sharing, listening, and reflection within a community context.
Participation is voluntary, and users engage at their own discretion.
3. Treehole Phone Booth
Use of Content
Stories shared via the Phone Booth may be recorded, retained, transcribed, or otherwise documented.
Please do not disclose names, contact details, addresses, identification numbers, or any information that could identify you or others.
Any use of such content may include:
- curation or display,
- community dialogue or education,
- artistic, research, or archival purposes.
4. Grief Mailbox
Letters and Return Address
Written messages submitted via the Grief Mailbox will be retained and used in anonymous or de-identified form.
Personal data is not required to participate. If you choose to include a name and a return mailing address, it will be used solely for returning a handwritten reply.
Please do not include personal data beyond what is strictly necessary for postal return.
Any personal data voluntarily provided will be:
- collected on a minimal and purpose-limited basis; and
- retained only for as long as necessary for that purpose.
Anonymous content may be retained for longer-term artistic, educational, or archival use.
If you choose to provide a return mailing address for the Grief Mailbox, we will collect and use it only to send you a handwritten reply.

5. Participant Responsibility
Participants agree not to submit content that is unlawful, harmful, or infringes the rights of others.
All participation is voluntary and at the participant’s own discretion.
6. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights in and to this installation, including but not limited to its design, script, structure, content, audio, visual materials, and documentation, are owned by Alongside Limited.
